What is SEPSIS?
SEPSIS is a dangerous response of the body to infection.
Therefore, when a person develops any infection, he/she should consult a physician.
What can cause SEPSIS?
SEPSIS can be caused by:
- Cuts
- Skin infections
- Urine infection
- Catheter infection
- Influenza
- Appendicitis
- Gallbladder infections
- Ear infections, among others.
What symptoms are seen in SEPSIS?
- High fever with cold or sweating
- Feeling of exaggerated weakness
- Difficulty breathing
- Pale, purple or mottled skin
- Low urine production
- Mental confusion
Who can develop SEPSIS?
Anyone can develop SEPSIS even if they are physically fit and young. However, they are at higher risk:
- People with chronic diseases such as diabetes, lung, liver and heart problems.
- People who do not have a spleen, which is an organ that is part of the immune system.
- People with low defenses such as those with AIDS, or receiving treatments for cancer or other conditions.
- Infants and adults over 60 years of age.
TO PREVENT SEPSIS:
Practice proper and frequent hand washing.
Get vaccinated against contagious diseases such as influenza and COVID-19.
See your doctor for chronic diseases such as diabetes.
Consult a physician for any infection.
