Why is mammography and sonomammography important?

Mammography is a non-invasive test that every woman should have after the age of 40. The procedure is quick and its purpose is to detect all types of breast cancer; since the image reveals tumors that cannot be felt in routine exams.
Sonomamography adds the use of ultrasound to this process and works to better examine dense tissues; as they are prone to be up to 6 times more likely to have cancer than breasts that are not dense.
In most cases, it is recommended to have both tests, as they work together to detect cancer more accurately. Early detection of breast cancer has reduced the risk of death significantly in the past few years.
We thank the Susan G. Komen organization for being part of this effort for women's health.
