An epidemic of bubonic plague occurred in Puerto Rico. His experience in Lisbon, Portugal allowed him to carry out his bacteriological diagnosis in 48 hours, eradicating it, a feat never before accomplished in the history of this disease. Founded with his great friend, Dr. Ramón Ruiz Arnau, the medical journal "Anales Médicos de Puerto Rico".
