Commission on Cancer Accreditation
The Puerto Rican League Against Cancer and its Dr. Isaac Gonzalez Martinez Oncology Hospital has been recognized again on March 11, 2021, with the international accreditation granted by the Commission on Cancer Program of the American College of Surgeons of the United States.
The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association founded in 1913 in the state of Chicago, Illinois with the objective of promoting the highest standards and quality guidelines for an optimal service to patients. Under this premise, they created different programs, among them "Commission on Cancer" which started in 1922.
"The Commission on Cancer is a consortium of health professional organizations dedicated to maximizing the levels of survivorship and quality of care for patients with cancer disease. This program establishes a rigorous methodology of quality guidelines, metrics and monitoring in order to offer specialized services for cancer patients.
This accreditation allows us as a hospital institution to have direct access to a wealth of resources, information, tools, new study options and innovative treatments in oncology. It also gives us access to comparative data from other centers in the world, giving us the opportunity to establish an effective system for the improvement of cancer prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, psychosocial approach, care and rehabilitation under a comprehensive system, supported by the practice of medicine with the highest technology, thus improving survival and quality of life.
The Puerto Rican League Against Cancer and its Dr. Isaac Gonzalez Martinez Oncology Hospital by receiving again this prestigious accreditation makes us part of this elite international group of more than 1,500 entities throughout the United States. We are the first hospital in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean to maintain this accreditation since January 1951 and we are the twelfth accredited hospital in the world.
