Liga Puertorriqueña Contra el Cáncer (Puerto Rican League Against Cancer):

The Liga Puertorriqueña Contra el Cáncer (Puerto Rican League Against Cancer)(LPCC) is a non-profit organization founded on April 9, 1938, under the vision of Dr. Isaac González Martínez. With the concept of volunteering, he managed to establish the first cancer clinic on the island. Dr. González’s dedication in the research field provided wide-ranging discoveries worldwide by discovering the bilharzia worms, a disease native to Africa. This was the first description of this condition in America. His greatest challenge was cancer disease. He strove to offer medical services and treatment for this condition; they are examples to emulate his commitment to the welfare of his people. Under the management of the LPCC, on December 29, 1962, the first specialized cancer hospital in Puerto Rico, named after Dr. Isaac González Martínez, Puerto Rico’s first Oncologist, was inaugurated on the premises of the Medical Center.

Mission:
Provide specialized health services for cancer patients through a comprehensive prevention plan, early diagnosis, support, medical care, and rehabilitation, tempered with technological advances, thus improving the population’s quality of life.

Vision:
The LPCC, as a non-profit organization and the only one of its kind in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, intends for the Oncological Hospital to continue to provide medical services to cancer patients tempered with new technologies arising for the well-being of our country.
