Urgent appeal to cancer patients in southwest area who have not received their treatment
The Isaac González Martínez Oncology Hospital in Río Piedras made an urgent appeal, through the president of the Board of Directors, Ramón González Castaing, to all cancer patients in the southwest area -affected by the earthquakes that have shaken Puerto Rico- to contact the hospital immediately to receive their medical treatment.
González Castaing informed that "at the Oncology Hospital we will provide services to any cancer patient who has not been able to follow his treatment as usual. We want to encourage them to come to the hospital or contact us to make arrangements for their transfer to ensure that they receive their treatment.
He clarified that the call is open to all cancer patients in the southwest area, not only to those who are commonly treated at the Oncology Hospital. The patient may be residing at home or in a shelter.
"Cancer patients who have not received their treatment can call 787 664-7558 (Nursing Supervision of the Dr. Isaac González Martínez Oncology Hospital) 24 hours a day for immediate orientation," said the president of the Board of Directors.
The Isaac González Martínez Oncology Hospital in Río Piedras, of the Puerto Rican League Against Cancer, has been alert since the earthquake emergency arose, through its director, Yarisis Centeno, who is a native of Guánica.
"This call is for all cancer patients who are not receiving treatment, either because they have been recently diagnosed and were unable to visit an oncologist, and/or their treatment has been affected because the site that provided it is no longer in operation. We are willing to assist them," said Ms. Centeno.
Director Centeno, who arrived at the Guánica camp on the first day of the emergency, asks each patient to provide the following information when contacting her: first and last name, age, address, telephone number, diagnosis, and to bring the most recent medical studies on the day of the appointment.
In the midst of the tremors, Centeno lost his grandmother, but he was still with Carlos Albizu University staff visiting the shelter in Guánica.
