Doris Ortiz Medina has been confined to the Oncology Hospital at the Medical Center "all Christmas long," but yesterday she was able to hear a little of the typical holiday cheer.

The Parranda de Amor led by Oscarito, Marileyda, Juan José Hernández, a group of the organizers of the Lola's Challenge Weekend sports event and Miss Petite de Puerto Rico, Jaylene Álvarez, filled the hospital center, where cancer patients over 18 years of age receive medical services, with Christmas rhythms.

As a preamble to the visit to several rooms, several children's and youth dance groups performed in the hospital lobby.

"I only have to thank God for the blessing he gives us to be here and we ask that everything that happens be pleasing to the Lord Jesus Christ. Let's give Jesus Christ a round of applause," said the merenguero before starting to sing songs of the time.

Zenaida Gutiérrez, leader of Run Like a Lola, presented the president of the Puerto Rican League Against Cancer, Ramón González, with a donation of $15,000 for the benefit of patients being treated at the Oncológico. The sum was raised during the most recent edition of Lola's Challenge Weekend, held in September.

"It was difficult, because we were between hurricanes Irma and Maria. We had to make a lot of changes this year, but we made it," Gutiérrez said.

Each year, the event organizers choose an organization that benefits patients or people in need on the island.
